Frontier Internet Availability

Yes, the name Frontier probably makes you think of exploration and expansion into new areas, but don’t confuse it with the airline. Yet, like the airline, Frontier Internet does live up to its name. Frontier started as an internet provider focused on DSL connections, but with the purchase of part of Verizon’s Fios fiber business, Frontier boldly ventured into the fiber market with products like Frontier Fiber, and the company hasn’t looked back.

Frontier currently offers DSL to over 32.1 million people in 25 states, making Frontier the fourth-largest provider of DSL in the U.S. In terms of fiber internet, Frontier covers more than 16.2 million people in 25 states. Even with this portion of Frontier’s business being relatively new, Frontier still ranks fourth in the nation for fiber access. Frontier internet is relatively cheap, starting at $49.99 per month (with Auto Pay and Paperless Bill). Prices for Frontier’s internet service will vary depending on current Frontier deals, your service area, and which connection type is available.

Frontier Internet Contracts and Data Caps

We’d like to imagine the internet is an endless frontier that we’re free to cruise in our virtual rocketships. There’s only one snag: those virtual rocketships we’re cruising around in are owned by internet service providers, and they want us to use them on their terms.

Fortunately, Frontier doesn't require a contract for you to get gift cards or other incentives when you sign up. So, if you want icing on your internet cake, you won't have to do anything extra.

At office birthday parties, everybody gets one, and only one, piece of cake. Why? To make sure that everyone gets a slice! Internet service providers use something called data caps in a similar way. If folks were allowed to download as much information from the internet as they wanted, internet provider networks would run low on capacity, and everyone’s internet speeds would suffer.

Frontier has a tasty treat for its subscribers. Unlike many other internet providers, none of Frontier’s internet plans come with data caps, which means you can stream your favorite Netflix show on loop to your heart’s content.

Frontier Internet Customer Service

It’s easy to imagine that good internet service is just a combination of speed and price, but the truth is that customer service is also essential. We hate to say it, but Frontier’s customer service could use some work.

Frontier Internet Customer Service Ratings

Better Business Bureau (BBB)American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) - fiberJ.D. Power WestJ.D. Power South
A-No. 4 (74/100)No. 6 (676/1,000)No. 5 (712/1,000)

Frontier's reputation with the ACSI and BBB has improved in 2024, with the ACSI giving the company a score of 74 out of 100. So, while Frontier did have some issues in the past, it is on the right path to redemption.

While Frontier’s customer service channels are pretty standard, we liked the ability to schedule a call back from customer service. If you’re not dealing with an internet emergency, this feature can save you the hassle of waiting on hold. Outside of snail mail and phone calls, you can also reach Frontier through live chat, the help center, or social media.

The Value of Frontier Internet

No matter if you’re a streamer, gamer, or just a web surfer, Frontier has the cutting-edge technology you need for a solid connection. Before you decide on whether or not Frontier will lead you to the internet forefront, consider these pros and cons of Frontier’s internet service:

ProsCons
  • Super-fast fiber internet
  • Available in 25 states
  • Several internet plan options
  • No data caps
  • Poor customer service history
  • Variable speeds per area

When it comes to Frontier, you have to balance the good and the bad. Frontier offers service to many rural areas where other internet providers don’t venture, and Frontier doesn’t impose data caps. Also, Frontier’s Fiber internet services, while limited in terms of availability, are quick and fairly priced. That said, we found Frontier to be lacking when it comes to customer service. All in all, depending on where you live and your internet needs, Frontier could be a good choice for your situation if the pros outweigh the cons.
