History Of FairPoint Communications

Originally founded in 1991 as MJD Communications, in 2006 the company integrated its operations into FairPoint Communications making it the 8th largest phone company in the U.S. It also offers Internet, data, broadband, television and business communication solutions. FairPoint is traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol FRP.

FairPoint Communications’, CEO, Paul Sunu, was the former CFO of Hargray Communications Group, Inc. and also Hawaiian Telcom. He was also the founder of Madison River Communications where he worked as managing director and CFO.

The majority of its customer base resides in rural areas in 18 states. It serves the majority of New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, and in part, Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington. Its headquarters are in Charlotte, NC.

FairPoint For Residential Customers:

Internet: Packages range from the starter for $20.99 to the Ultra for $49.99

Phone: Local and long-distance packages range from $18.35 to $51.99. Customers can also build their own plans and choose from up to 13 features.

TV: FairPoint Communications has a partnership with DIRECT® which allows it to provide a high-end customer TV viewing experience. It provides value, a great variety of HD and sports channels as well as access to popular movies and shows. Premium services and access to more than 70 Spanish channels is also available.

Bundles: Double Point and Triple Point bundles will help customer to save. Double Point allows customers to choose between phone and Internet or TV; and Triple Point includes all three.

FairPoint For Business:  

FairPoint’s IP-based network in the northern New England states gives business customers an affordable, quick and flexible Ethernet connection. This connection supports applications such as video conferencing and e-learning.

Businesses may choose from an array of individual or bundled services. One of FairPoint’s missions is to ensure that businesses succeed. It also offers promotions such as 30 percent off the business bundle of phone and Internet services.
