Allstate is the largest publicly held personal insurers in the country with roughly 16 million customers. They offer auto insurance, renters insurance, and everything in between. Allstate was founded in 1931 as part of Sears, Roebuck & Co., and have been on the leading edge of numerous changes to the insurance business over the last 80 years. They were one of the first companies to use a rate classification system and helped persuade the government to make seat belt use mandatory. Their initial public offering in 1993 was the largest in U.S. history at the time.
Allstates major business is private automobile and homeowners insurance,
which is marketed under the Allstate®, Esurance®, and Encompass® brands. The also provide life insurance and retirement and investment services, as well as roadside services and common household insurance like boat and renters insurance.

. This deal varies depending on which services customers bundle. For example, customers that decide to insure both a home and a car can save 10% on auto insurance and 35% on home insurance. The same discount also applies to renters and condo owners. Bundle discounts are also provided to customers that combine both life and auto insurance.
Allstate also offers several discounts to drivers that will help save money.
- Safe drivers can get 45% off, $100 is taken off the deductible every year a driver goes without an accident.
- A 10% discount is applied if the drivers car has anti-lock brakes and 30% off if it comes with airbags and motorized seatbelts.
There are several companies that give ratings on insurance companies based on financial security, strength, and how theyre expected to perform in the future. Three different major reviewers of insurance companies all gave Allstate very good ratings. Allstate was given a superior rating (A+) by A.M. Best, a very strong rating (AA-) from Standards and Poor, and an excellent rating (Aa3) from Moodys Investor Service.
The J.D. Power and Associates 2012 U.S. Auto Insurance Study measured customer satisfaction with auto insurance companies using five different markers: claims, price, policy offering, billing, and interaction. On the report, Allstate was given a mediocre overall satisfaction
rating of 3/5.
