Apple Pay

A new feature coming along in all of the devices Apple introduced today is Apple Pay, a new payment system designed to simplify and secure credit transactions. With Apple Pay, you no longer need a plastic credit card. After setting it up, you simply hold your phone up to the transmitter and touch the home button. A soft beep confirms that the transaction was completed. If you’re worried about security, Apple has got you covered, too. The program uses Touch ID, the identification system used in iPhone 5s and above. This confirms that you are the person you claim to be, making it nearly impossible for other people to use your Apple Pay without your permission. Apple also does not see what you’re buying, how much it costs, or where you’re buying it. That information is saved solely for you, the retailer, and your bank. If your credit card gets breached, you also do not have to cancel your card. It uses a dynamic security code, which the merchant does not see. The same technology is use for easy, one touch online payments, which are just as secure. Apple Pay comes in the Passbook of new iPhones and is on the new iOS. Stores that will be adopting the new form of payment include, but are not limited to:
  • Target
  • Staples
  • Sephora
  • Macy’s
  • Bloomingdales
  • Starbucks
  • Panera
  • McDonald’s

The Apple Watch

Hailed by Tim Cook as “the most personal device we’ve ever created,” Apple Watch is guaranteed to deliver on multiple fronts. The newest piece of Apple technology on this phone is the Digital Crown, a small piece on the side of the device which allows for easy magnification on a small watch display. But magnification is certainly not all the Apple Watch offers. It requires connectivity with an iPhone, so you can access its features on your watch, including:
  • Siri
  • Navigation (with vibration signals that tell you which way to go)
  • Access to contacts
  • Music access
  • Calendar reminders
These notifications will be sent to your watch so you can quickly reply to them. If you’re an emoji person, you can reply using emojis and can even edit them to fit your mood. The Apple Watch also has new features, like the ability to share heartbeats, taps, and signals between people. The watch uses a special new technology called the Taptic Engine, which acts as a speaker and vibrator. The watch runs off of an S1 system and can be charged using a magnetic station which attaches to the back of the phone. It also has connectivity with third party apps, like Pinterest, Twitter, and Nike The watch comes in:
  • Two sizes
  • Three materials
  • Six band types
The watch starts at $349 and is coming out in early 2015.
