Some Internet service providers (ISPs) now provide free Wi-Fi hotspots as a benefit to subscribers that pay for certain internet service plans.
Having access to a hotspot means you may be able to connect to the Internet when you are on the go, in airports, restaurants, hotels and more. Here are some details about free Wi-Fi hotspots from some of the major ISPs.
If you subscribe to AT&T high speed Internet, Fast Access DSL or iPhone service, you are eligible to participate in their Wi-Fi hotspot program. Certain Laptop Connect and Blackberry customers may also be eligible. To access an AT&T hotspot, you can use Connection Software from AT&T or configure your computer to access the network "attwifi".
When you find an AT&T Wifi hotspot, you will need to enter your AT&T master account (not a sub-account) Member ID and the password. Once you are logged in, you will be able to access the Internet from within 150 feet of hotspots in most Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, McDonald's and many airports, cafés and restaurants.

They claim to have over 5,000 hotspots in airports, hotels and more. In order to use Verizon's Wi-Fi hotspots, you will need to install Verizon's Wi-Fi Connect Software. If you are in range of a hotspot, a pop-up message will let you know wifi is available. Enter your Verizon Wireless username and password, and you will be on your way to Internet access.
Comcast provides thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots to those with Xfinity Internet, at no additional cost. In order to connect to Xfinity Wi-Fi, you will need to select the network "xfinitywifi" in your network browser.
This will prompt you to enter your Comcast.net email address, or username and password. After five minutes of inactivity you will be logged out.
Time Warner Cable
Time Warner Cable offers Internet access at locations across Los Angeles, available to those with Standard Internet service or above. In order to access Time Warner Cable's Wi-Fi hotspots, select "tcwwifi" from your Internet options. Open your browser, enter your Time Warner Cable email address and password, and you will be connected. If you would like to know the location of Time Warner Cable's hotspots, download their Wi-fi Finder App from the Android Market or iTunes App Store.
Wi-Fi hotspots allow for Internet access at increased speeds, and help customers save on mobile data plans by allowing them to connect to the Internet at convenient spots. Check the terms of your Internet service plan, since you may be eligible for free Wi-Fi hotspot access even if you have a standard plan.
