Brightspeed Internet Availability

Brightspeed offers fiber and DSL internet across 19 states, reaching over 1.3 million locations. The provider features the most coverage in North Carolina, Missouri, and Arkansas. While Brightspeed is still working on expanding its fiber service, DSL is where the provider truly excels, as it's the fifth-largest DSL provider in the United States. We get that this accolade may not mean much to those in urban areas or the 'burbs, but rural customers are certainly appreciative of it.

Brightspeed Internet Pros and Cons

Brightspeed comes with some great features for customers in its service area. But before you decide if it's right for you, here are the pros and cons to consider.

ProsCons
  • No annual contracts
  • Unlimited data
  • Affordable plans
  • Equipment included with fiber plans
  • Limited fiber availability
  • No real bundling options

Overall, we think Brightspeed is an ideal fiber provider if they cover your address. With affordable plans and plenty of speed tiers to choose from, you can find the right option for your household.

Catch the Fiber Rollout

Brightspeed acquired a massive portion of CenturyLink’s legacy network and is aggressively upgrading old copper DSL lines to high-speed fiber across the Midwest and South. Check your address frequently; if fiber just arrived in your neighborhood, you can usually lock in the lowest promotional launch pricing and snag a free equipment upgrade.

Brightspeed Internet Customer Service Ratings

The general consensus we found on Brightspeed is fairly positive. Customers online rave about how polite, knowledgeable, and efficient the staff is, especially when it comes to keeping everyone in the loop and getting things fixed right the first time. Plus, customers brag about a super-smooth installation process and internet speeds that are fast and reliable enough to keep the whole house happy, with minimal outages. This feedback has catapulted Brightspeed into the second ranking in the ASCI Fiber rankings (only behind AT&T Fiber). On the flip side, a handful of folks have run into some frustrating customer service snags. Common issues include being randomly disconnected or encountering an occasional rude or uninformed rep. We read a few reviews from others who complained that their speeds were unacceptably sluggish despite tech support trying to patch things up, and a couple of people weren't thrilled with some pushy sales tactics. Still, if you're looking for a provider where the good days vastly outnumber the bad, Brightspeed seems to be holding its own pretty well, despite not having any noticeable awards under its belt (such as J.D. Power).

Brightspeed Internet Contracts and Data Caps

While some internet providers require customers to commit to contracts that can last for multiple years, Brightspeed eliminates annual contracts to give customers more control over their internet service. Every plan comes with a monthly payment model, so there are no early termination fees (ETFs) if you want to switch or cancel your current plan. (We'd hate for you to pay fees just to switch providers.)

Additionally, there are no data caps with Brightspeed. Regardless of the plan you choose, you can stream, download files, and perform other bandwidth-heavy tasks without worrying about hitting data limits or incurring data overage fees.

Brightspeed Internet Connection Types

Brightspeed provides two wired internet options to customers: fiber and DSL. While its fiber service is slowly expanding to more locations, its DSL service offers solid availability nationwide. We think that for customers in rural areas who still rely on DSL, Brightspeed is a reliable internet option.
