6 Apps to Download for Tracking Your Utility Bills

Written on:

Every household pays for utilities every month. If it’s been hard for you to keep track of exactly how much you’re paying, you can monitor your bills by using a personal finance tracking app. Monitoring usage can be helpful if you’re looking to reduce your monthly utility bills, which include gas, electricity, water, and internet

Your bank app lets you make bill payments, but it doesn’t come with bill-tracking features and can’t connect multiple financial accounts to a single app. That’s where budget and expense tracking apps come in handy. These apps also remind you to make payments on time to avoid late fees and improve your credit score. Here are six apps you can download to track your utility bills and feel in control of your finances.

Mint

Created by Intuit, the same creators of TurboTax, Mint is one of the top personal finance apps, with many helpful features to track your utility bills. After you’ve installed the app and connected your bank accounts on Mint, you can automate tracking. For example, each expense from your bank account or credit card is automatically categorized into expense types.

Mint’s clean and simple interface makes it easy to use. It can also send you reminders for bill payment deadlines through push notifications so that you don’t get charged a late payment fee. Users can download Mint from the Apple App Store or Google Play. There’s a free version, but if you want to avoid ads, you’ll need to get the paid version.

The Bill Assistant Pro app helps you control your finances and keep track of your utility bills. One of the selling points of the app is its clean and minimalistic interface. It monitors what’s coming in and going out from your connected bank accounts. Like other utility tracking apps, Bill Assistant Pro also reminds you when your bill is due and how much is owed.

The app is highly customizable with user-defined categories. You can track other household expenses to compare your utility bills to other costs. Bill Assistant Pro is a paid app, available for download on Apple and Android devices.

Prism

The Prism app offers complete visibility of your finances, including utility bills. All you have to do is link your bills and accounts to the app, which automatically tracks them. Prism has agreements with over 11,000 utility companies, including electric, water, and waste utilities. If a particular bill isn’t listed, you can add it manually.

Once all the utility companies are synced with Prism, the app will show you the net balance and due dates. Prism also offers a Prism Payment Promise feature, where you get reimbursed for any late fees (up to $1,000) if there’s any delay in payment made through the app. Another handy feature is that you can view all upcoming bill payments on the calendar. The Prism app is available for free on Apple and Android devices.

Rocket Money

Rocket Money is a finance tracking app available on Android and Apple devices. A unique feature is that it offers bill negotiation (available only with the premium version). You can take a photo of your utility bill and upload it to the app. The Rocket Money team will then look at the uploaded bill to find ways you can receive discounts or guide you to any assistance programs to reduce your utility bills

Another feature is its Savings Goal, which allows users to automate their savings by withdrawing their desired amount from their bank account and transferring it to an FDIC-insured savings account. Rockey Money is available in free and premium versions, which offer advanced features such as custom categories.

Bills Monitor

The Bills Monitor app, available at the Apple App Store and Google Play, is a full-featured budgeting and expense-tracking app. You can use this app to identify if there’s any room for savings on your electricity bill.

Available in free and pro versions, the app lets you track your bills, due dates, bill history, and payment history, as well as set payment reminders. You can also download bill history or financial records in PDF, CSV, or HTML format. For security, there’s an option to use a passcode to keep all your information private and safe. Another helpful feature is that you can back up your data in case you lose your phone.

Mobills

Mobills app is an all-in-one budget app for tracking your expenses. Users can create a budget plan and monitor money flowing in and out of the account. The savings goal feature allows you to put aside a certain amount of money to free up some cash. You can also budget for each category of your utility bills, such as water, electricity, and gas.

The Mobills app will remind you when you’re getting close to exceeding your budget. It’s available to download on Windows, iOS, and Android. There’s a free version, but if you want to enjoy premium features, such as unlimited accounts and data import, you will need to pay for a subscription.
