Oklahoma City Internet Resources for Low-Income Families
Over 20 percent of Oklahomans don’t have the means to conduct the many online activities so much of daily life requires lately, including functions related to work, education, and home life. Nearly as startling is the number of Oklahoma residents who don’t own internet-enabled digital devices. To help bridge the divide, Oklahoma City organizations and businesses are participating in providing free internet and redistributing upcycled computers to those who may benefit. We put together the following list of organizations and programs to help people in Oklahoma City find the internet resources they need:
Discounted Distance Learning Devices in Oklahoma City
- Computers With Causes: Computers With Causes, a national non-profit organization, is dedicated to digital device redistribution for those who can benefit most from donated computers. Anyone who qualifies may submit an online application for a free refurbished laptop or desktop computer. This organization reviews applications on a 30-day rolling period, so if you don’t hear in that timeframe, you are welcome to apply again.
- PCs for People: PCs for People is a national charitable organization that collects used computers from communities and businesses, refurbishes them, and redistributes them for free or at a discounted cost to people who will benefit from them the most. To qualify for an online or in-person discounted purchase, you must fall below the 200 percent poverty level and have proof of identification.
- The On It Foundation: The On It Foundation is a tech-focused non-profit organization to help K-12 students access technology and computer devices. Qualifying recipients must be low-income and have a distinct need. You can apply directly on the site to see if your student qualifies for a computer. If you don’t meet the requirements of this program, you can purchase discounted computers through the Jump On It! program.
Maybe you need a computer right now, but you cannot afford the full price of a new laptop or desktop machine. Several local businesses in Oklahoma City sell used computers at discounted prices, as well. Here are three stores you can visit in person or online to shop for an affordable refurbished device:
