Standalone Wireless Security Hardware With Windstream

Windstream is a major voice and data communications company in the United States. Formed in 2006, Windstream primarily deals with business Internet and data services, though they offer limited residential services including a partnership with DISH network. They have over 14,500 employees with an annual revenue of more than $6 billion and over three million customers, with these numbers growing rapidly as they acquire new businesses annually. Windstream primarily focuses on rural and other underserved customers. Windstream has segued its Internet and data security into several home security features, but does not offer monitored plans at this time.

Service Areas

Any current Windstream customer can make use of their security equipment. Windstream is available in 23 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.


Windstream’s home security equipment can be bundled in with other Windstream services, saving you money. Some home security features may save you up to 20% on your homeowner’s insurance while protecting your home and family.

At this time, however, Windstream security is not monitored; they offerstandalone equipment that have alarm responses, but are not monitored and can not illicit emergency response directly.


Windstream security provides a la carte features based on the equipment purchased, such as:

  • Alarm response when certain devices are triggered around or outside your home
  • Door and window sensors that can set off alarms
  • Motion detectors to trigger alarms whenever suspicious action is detected
  • Smoke detectors that can detect smoke up to 60 feet from the source
  • Remote control units that allow you easy arming and disarming from outside the home.


To buy any equipment, you must have an existing service with Windstream. Some of their hardware includes:

  • Remote control unit: $18.99, arm and disarm remotely with this key fob unit
  • Wireless door or window sensor: $18.99, to activate the alarm whenever triggered
  • Wireless motion detector: $21.99, can detect up to 100 degrees and trigger an alarm
  • Wireless security system: $89.99, main unit with alarm, one door or window sensor, one motion detector and two remotes with a siren
  • Wireless smoke sensor: $29.99, can detect smoke within 60 feet within range of the wireless main alarm.

Windstream does not offer security plans at this time. The equipment is all standalone and unmonitored. It triggers a sound or visual alarm, but is not connected to any emergency response teams and you can not buy monitored plans at this time.
